M.M. Natural Gardens

I provide Professional Ecological Gardening, Landscaping, and Garden Design services in Etobicoke, Toronto, Mississauga, and Oakville.

  • Spring / Fall garden cleanup and regular garden maintenance

  • Planting of native and beneficial perennial plants

  • Garden improvement and design

  • Seasonal flower displays, custom planters, annual planting

  • Hedge / shrub / topiary trimming

  • Mulching, soil improvement, organic fertilization

  • Light wood and stone work

I do not provide lawn mowing or snow removal services.

I encourage sustainable gardening practices that help the ecology:

  • Leaving leaves and twigs neatly in flower beds as mulch (precious organic matter and shelter for beneficial organisms)

  • Providing a clean source of water for birds and insects (fountains, ponds, birdbaths, insect watering stations)

  • Adding compost, organic fertilizers, and mulch to improve the soil, help plant growth and flowering, and conserve water

  • Planting native plants as food sources and shelter for birds and beneficial insects

  • Adding early and late season blooming and fruiting plants, and leaving perennial seedheads in place over winter

A bit about me:

There is nothing I enjoy more than experiencing Nature. Whether I am out on a hike in the forest, playing golf, or working in a garden and seeing wildlife and listening to birdsong, outside is where I want to be!

After completing the Landscape Technician program at Humber College (with Honours) and gardening professionally for over 12 seasons, my approach to gardening, especially in the last few years, has changed dramatically:

I stopped trying to fight Nature, in a vain and endless pursuit of a ‘perfect’ garden. Instead, I adopted a more holistic way of gardening to try to help and work with Nature, and to become a more active and responsible steward of the land. Wabi-sabi over ‘perfection’

Using this new approach and inspiration, I have been turning my own traditional style Etobicoke garden into a more natural garden, putting biodiversity and ecological value first. And in just a few seasons of adding native plants and managing the garden in harmony with Nature, the improvement has been dramatic!

Knowing that my help is making a difference, and seeing many different birds, butterflies, hummingbirds, fireflies, and other interesting wildlife, has been deeply rewarding and encouraging. And I’m just getting started!
